Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Extremely flammable. Reacts violently with water liberating extremely flammable gases. May form explosive peroxides. Harmful if swallowed. Causes burns. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Vapours may cause drowsiness and dizziness.Water-reactive.Light sensitive.Corrosive.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes eye burns. Causes redness and pain.
Skin:
Causes skin burns. May be absorbed through the skin. Repeated or prolonged exposure may cause drying and cracking of the skin.
Ingestion:
Harmful if swallowed. Aspiration hazard. Symptoms may include: headache, excitement, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, stupor, and coma.
Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. May cause central nervous system depression, characterized by excitement, followed by headache, dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea. Advanced stages may cause collapse, unconsciousness, coma and possible death due to respiratory failure. Aspiration of material into the lungs may cause chemical pneumonitis, which may be fatal.
Inhalation:
Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract. Exposure to high concentrations may produce narcosis, nausea and loss of consciousness. Inhalation of vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness.
Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause defatting and dermatitis. Prolonged or repeated exposure can cause psychic abnormalities such as anxiety, depression and excitability.
Laboratory experiments have resulted in mutagenic effects. Prolonged exposure to high vapor concentrations may cause eye injury. Repeated exposures may be habit forming.

Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid.
Skin:
In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water.
Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical aid. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
Potential for aspiration if swallowed. Get medical aid immediately.
Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Inhalation:
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Notes to Physician:
Treat symptomatically and supportively. Persons with kidney disease, chronic respiratory disease, liver disease, or skin disease may be at increased risk from exposure to this substance. Alcoholic beverage consumption may enhance the toxic effects of this substance.

Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Vapors may form an explosive mixture with air. Will burn if involved in a fire. Extremely flammable. Material will readily ignite at room temperature. Water Reactive. Material will react with water and may release a flammable and/or toxic gas.
Containers may explode in the heat of a fire. May form explosive peroxides. Will be easily ignited by heat, sparks or flame. May re-ignite after fire is extinguished. Vapors are heavier than air and may travel to a source of ignition and flash back. Vapors can spread along the ground and collect in low or confined areas. This liquid floats on water and may travel to a source of ignition and spread fire.
Extinguishing Media:
Use approved class D extinguishing agents or smother with dry sand, clay, or sodium bicarbonate. DO NOT USE WATER OR FOAM.

Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Do not expose spill to water. A vapor suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors.

Section 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE
Handling:
Do not allow water to get into the container because of violent reaction. Ground and bond containers when transferring material. Use spark-proof tools and explosion proof equipment. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Do not breathe dust, vapor, mist, or gas.
Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Keep container tightly closed. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Do not allow contact with water. Use only in a chemical fume hood. If peroxide formation is suspected, do not open or move container. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flames. Avoid breathing vapor.
Storage:
Keep away from sources of ignition. Store in a cool, dry place. Do not store in direct sunlight. Store in a tightly closed container.
Flammables-area. Corrosives area. Water free area. Store under nitrogen. Keep away from oxidizing agents. Containers should be dated when opened and tested periodically for the presence of peroxides.
Should crystals form in a peroxidizable liquid, peroxidation may have occurred and the product should be considered extremely dangerous. In this instance, the container should only be opened remotely by professionals. All peroxidizable substances should be stored away from heat and light and be protected from ignition sources.
