Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Very toxic by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed.
Irritating to eyes and skin. Very toxic to aquatic organisms. May cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment. Toxic : danger of serious damage to health by prolonged exposure through inhalation and if swallowed.Air sensitive.Stench.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes eye irritation.
Skin:
Causes skin irritation. May be fatal if absorbed through the skin.
Ingestion:
May be fatal if swallowed. May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Inhalation:
May be fatal if inhaled. Causes respiratory tract irritation.
Chronic:
Exposure limits have been recommended for organotin compounds to minimize the potential for adverse effects on immune function and the CNS. The critical effect of trimethyltin and triethyltin derivatives is on the CNS.
Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid.
Skin:
POISON material. In case of contact, get medical aid immediately.
Immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse. Destroy contaminated shoes.
Ingestion:
POISON material. If swallowed, get medical aid immediately. Only induce vomiting if directed to do so by medical personnel. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Inhalation:
POISON material. If inhaled, get medical aid immediately. Remove victim to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration.
If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Notes to Physician:
Treat symptomatically and supportively.
Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Vapors may be heavier than air. They can spread along the ground and collect in low or confined areas. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
Extinguishing Media:
Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or appropriate foam.
Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Provide ventilation. Place under an inert atmosphere. This material is a water pollutant and should not be emptied into drains.
Section 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Handle under an inert atmosphere. Do not breathe vapor or mist. Use only with adequate ventilation or respiratory protection.
Storage:
Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Store under an inert atmosphere.
Section 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION
Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate general or local exhaust ventilation to keep airborne concentrations below the permissible exposure limits.

Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced.
