Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Irritating to eyes and skin. Harmful by inhalation.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause eye irritation. May cause transient corneal injury.
Skin:
May cause skin irritation. May cause skin sensitization, an allergic reaction, which becomes evident upon re-exposure to this material.
Ingestion:
Harmful if swallowed. May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. May cause kidney damage. May cause central nervous system depression. May cause thyroid abnormalities.
May produce aplastic anemia with tremors and marked mental dullness.
May produce blood disturbances with or without neurological signs.
Inhalation:
Harmful if inhaled. May cause respiratory tract irritation. May cause kidney damage. May cause edema of lungs or glottis and can produce respiratory paralysis.
Chronic:
May cause reproductive and fetal effects. Laboratory experiments have resulted in mutagenic effects. Chronic exposure can affect thyroid function. May cause kidney damage.
Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: Get medical aid immediately. Do NOT allow victim to rub eyes or keep eyes closed. Extensive irrigation with water is required (at least 30 minutes).
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid. Do NOT use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. May form explosive peroxides. Vapors may be heavier than air. They can spread along the ground and collect in low or confined areas. Containers may explode when heated.
Extinguishing Media:
Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or chemical foam.
Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out.
Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Avoid runoff into storm sewers and ditches which lead to waterways. Do not flush into a sewer. Clean up spills immediately, observing precautions in the Protective Equipment section. Provide ventilation.

Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly closed.
Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Store protected from light. If peroxide formation is suspected, do not open or move container.
Storage:
Do not store in direct sunlight. Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. After opening, purge container with nitrogen before reclosing. Periodically test for peroxide formation on long-term storage. Addition of water or appropriate reducing materials will lessen peroxide formation.
