Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Causes burns.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause irreversible eye injury. Contact with liquid is corrosive to the eyes and causes severe burns.
Skin:
Contact with liquid is corrosive and causes severe burns and ulceration.
Ingestion:
Causes severe pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and shock. May cause hemorrhaging of the digestive tract. May cause corrosion and permanent tissue destruction of the esophagus and digestive tract.
Inhalation:
Irritation may lead to chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema.
Causes severe irritation of upper respiratory tract with coughing, burns, breathing difficulty, and possible coma.
Chronic:
Prolonged inhalation may cause respiratory tract inflammation and lung damage.
Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid immediately.
Skin:
In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Get medical aid immediately. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Get medical aid immediately.
If victim is fully conscious, give a cupful of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Inhalation:
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Notes to Physician:
Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Powerful reducing agent. Decomposes at high temperatures into H3PO4, phosphoric acid, and spontaneously flammable PH3, phosphine.
Extinguishing Media:
For small fires, use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide or chemical foam.
Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Cover with sand, dry lime or soda ash and place in a closed container for disposal. Provide ventilation.
Section 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not ingest or inhale.
Storage:
Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Store away from alkalies. Separate from oxidizing materials.
Section 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION
Engineering Controls:
Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low.
Exposure Limits CAS# 6303-21-5: CAS# 7789-20-0: CAS# 57583-56-9: Personal Protective Equipment Eyes: Wear chemical splash goggles and face shield.
Skin:
Wear appropriate gloves to prevent skin exposure.
Clothing:
Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced.
