Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Harmful by inhalation, in contact with skin and if swallowed. May cause sensitization by skin contact. Contact with combustible material may cause fire. Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause eye irritation.
Skin:
May be absorbed through the skin in harmful amounts. May cause skin sensitization, an allergic reaction, which becomes evident upon re-exposure to this material.
Ingestion:
Harmful if swallowed. The toxicological properties of this substance have not been fully investigated.
Inhalation:
Harmful if inhaled. The toxicological properties of this substance have not been fully investigated.
Chronic:
May cause liver and kidney damage. Repeated exposure may cause damage to the spleen.
Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
Skin:
Get medical aid. Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion:
Get medical aid immediately. Wash mouth out with water.
Inhalation:
Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.
Notes to Physician:
Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Strong oxidizer. Contact with other material may cause fire.
Extinguishing Media:
Use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, or chemical foam.
Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Vacuum or sweep up material and place into a suitable disposal container. Keep combustibles (wood, paper, oil, etc.,) away from spilled material.
Section 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Avoid breathing dust.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place. Store in a tightly closed container.
Deep freeze (below -20C).
Section 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION
Engineering Controls:
Use process enclosure, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to control airborne levels below recommended exposure limits.
Exposure Limits CAS# 95-54-5: Germany: 0.1 mg/m3 TWA Germany: Skin absorber Japan: 0.1 mg/m3 OEL Malaysia: 0.1 mg/m3 TWA Russia: 0.5 mg/m3 TWA Spain: 0.1 mg/m3 VLA-ED CAS# 7757-79-1: Russia: 5 mg/m3 TWA Personal Protective Equipment Eyes: Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHAs eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166.
Skin:
Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure.
Clothing:
Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced.
