Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
May cause sensitization by skin contact. May cause heritable genetic damage. May cause cancer by inhalation. Harmful to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment.Carcinogen.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Contact with eyes may cause severe irritation, and possible eye burns.
Skin:
May cause skin sensitization, an allergic reaction, which becomes evident upon re-exposure to this material. Prolonged skin contact may cause injury especially if the skin is abraded. May cause severe irritation and possible burns.
Ingestion:
May be fatal if swallowed. May cause severe gastrointestinal tract irritation with nausea, vomiting and possible burns. May cause liver and kidney damage. May cause methemoglobinemia, cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood), convulsions, and death. Methemoglobinemia is characterized by dizziness, drowsiness, headache, shortness of breath, cyanosis (bluish discoloration of skin due to deficient oxygenation of the blood), rapid heart rate and chocolate-brown colored blood.
Inhalation:
May cause irritation of the respiratory tract with burning pain in the nose and throat, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and pulmonary edema. May cause asthmatic attacks due to allergic sensitization of the respiratory tract. May cause ulceration and perforation of the nasal septum if inhaled in excessive quantities.
May cause an allergic response. May cause severe respiratory tract irritation and possible burns. Inhalation may produce ulcerated nasal mucosa, perforated nasal septa, rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose), nosebleed, perforated eardrums, pulmonary edema, asthma, kidney damage, and erosion and discoloration of the teeth.
Chronic:
Prolonged or repeated skin contact may cause sensitization dermatitis and possible destruction and/or ulceration. Repeated exposure may cause erosion of teeth. May cause liver and kidney damage. Chronic inhalation may cause nasal septum ulceration and perforation. May cause cancer according to animal studies.

Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid immediately.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion:
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.

Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion.

Use extinguishing media most appropriate for the surrounding fire.

Absorb spill with inert material (e.g. vermiculite, sand or earth), then place in suitable container. Wash area with soap and water.

Wash thoroughly after handling. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly closed.
