Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Harmful if swallowed. Causes severe burns.Corrosive.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
Causes eye burns. May cause irreversible eye injury. Contact may cause ulceration of the conjunctiva and cornea.
Skin:
Causes skin burns. May cause deep, penetrating ulcers of the skin.
Ingestion:
Causes gastrointestinal tract burns. Large doses of lithium may cause dizziness, prostration, and kidney damage. Dehydration, weight loss, slurred speech, blurred vision, sensory loss, ataxia (failure of muscular coordination), tremors, and convulsions may occur. May be harmful if swallowed. Ingestion may produce severe abdominal pain, corrosion of the lips, mouth, tongue, and pharynx, and the vomiting of large pieces of mucosa.
Inhalation:
May cause irritation of the respiratory tract with burning pain in the nose and throat, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and pulmonary edema. May cause severe irritation of the respiratory tract with possible burns. May cause burning sensation, coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, shortness of breath, headache, nausea, and vomiting.
Chronic:
Chronic inhalation and ingestion may cause effects similar to those of acute inhalation and ingestion.
Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical aid immediately.
Skin:
In case of contact, immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Get medical aid immediately. Wash clothing before reuse.
Ingestion:
If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Get medical aid immediately.
If victim is fully conscious, give a cupful of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Inhalation:
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical aid.

General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Contact with metals may evolve flammable hydrogen gas.
