Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Reacts violently with water liberating extremely flammable gases.
Causes burns.Water-reactive.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause irreversible eye injury. Contact with eyes may cause severe irritation, and possible eye burns.
Skin:
May cause severe skin irritation with possible burns, especially if skin is wet or moist.
Ingestion:
May cause severe gastrointestinal tract irritation with nausea, vomiting and possible burns. May cause systemic toxic effects on the heart, liver, and kidneys.
Inhalation:
May cause lung damage.
Chronic:
No information found.

Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: Get medical aid immediately. Gently lift eyelids and flush continuously with water. Extensive irrigation with water is required (at least 30 minutes).
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion:
If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water.
Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.
Inhalation:
Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Notes to Physician:

Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. Forms peroxides of unknown stability. Water Reactive. May react exothermically with water, causing liberation of heat and possible spattering of material. Reacts with water to form explosive hydrogen gas.
Extinguishing Media:
Do NOT use carbon dioxide. Do NOT use alcohol foams. Do NOT use halogenated agents. Use approved class D extinguishing agents or smother with dry sand, clay, or sodium bicarbonate. DO NOT USE WATER!
Section 6 - ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
General Information: Use proper personal protective equipment as indicated in Section 8.
Spills/Leaks:
Cover with limestone and place into a closed container for disposal.
Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Isolate area and deny entry. Do not expose spill to water. Cover with material such as dry soda ash or calcium carbonate and place into a closed container for disposal.

Section 7 - HANDLING and STORAGE
Handling:
Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Do not allow water to get into the container because of violent reaction. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not ingest or inhale. Faceshield required. Store and handle protected from air. Avoid mechanical shock and friction.
Storage:
Do not store near combustible materials. Store in a cool, dry place.
Storage under a nitrogen blanket has been recommended.

Section 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION
Engineering Controls:
Use explosion-proof ventilation equipment. Use process enclosure, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering controls to control airborne levels.
Exposure Limits CAS# 7440-09-7: Personal Protective Equipment Eyes: Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHAs eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166.
Skin:
Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure.
Clothing:
Wear appropriate protective clothing to prevent skin exposure.
Respirators:
Follow the OSHA respirator regulations found in 29 CFR 1910.134 or European Standard EN 149. Use a NIOSH/MSHA or European Standard EN 149 approved respirator if exposure limits are exceeded or if irritation or other symptoms are experienced.

Section 13 - DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
Products which are considered hazardous for supply are classified as Special Waste and the disposal of such chemicals is covered by regulations which may vary according to location. Contact a specialist disposal company or the local waste regulator for advice. Empty containers must be decontaminated before returning for recycling.
