Section 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
EMERGENCY OVERVIEW
Causes severe burns.Corrosive.
Potential Health Effects
Eye:
May cause eye irritation and possible burns. May cause eye injury.
Skin:
May cause severe irritation and possible burns.
Ingestion:
May cause severe gastrointestinal tract irritation with nausea, vomiting and possible burns.

Section 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid immediately.
Skin:
Get medical aid immediately. Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately.

Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.

Section 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
General Information:
As in any fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus in pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent), and full protective gear. During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Contact with moisture or water may generate sufficient heat to ignite nearby combustible materials.

Section 10 - STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

Incompatibilities with Other Materials:
Sodium thiosulfate is incompatible with nitrite, strong acids, strong oxidizers, and water reactive materials. It is deliquescent in moist air and efflorescnet in warm dry air. Sodium hydroxide generates large amounts of heat when in contact with water and may steam and splatter. It reacts with mineral acids to form corresponding salts.
It reacts with weak acid gases like hydrogen sulfide sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide. It ignites when in contact with cinnamaldehyde or zinc and reacts explosively with a mixture of chloroform and methane. It is corrosive to metals such as aluminum, tin, zinc, as well as alloys such as steel and may cause formation of flammable hydrogen gas.
